Eloise Rose lemon blue stripe mug

£34

A charming addition to your morning coffee, each mug is carefully hand made on the wheel using terracotta clay. Dipped in creamy white slip and then meticulously painted with a beautiful lemon illustration and blue stripe. To add a touch of elegance, each mug is finished with a satin semi matte glaze made in house, giving it a unique and polished finish. Available in two sizes, this mug is a perfect blend of heritage and modern design, making it an ideal addition to any ceramics collection.

Inspired by majolica, a type of tin-glazed pottery that originated in Spain however was made popular by the Italians at the height of the Renaissance in 1500-1600. My depictions of lemons and the contrast of the blue and egg yolk yellow really give the feeling of this traditional European pottery style however I have adapted it to take on a more English painting style with more naive brush strokes and clear layering of colours. Examples of maiolica can be found in so many places but a well known example from The Met is this Pharmacy Jar dating to 1573
