Ondine Ash

Eloise Rose black cross mug

£34

A charming addition to your morning coffee, each mug is hand made in Falmouth on the wheel using terracotta clay. Dipped in creamy white slip and then meticulously painted with a black cross pattern. To add a touch of elegance, each mug is finished with a satin semi matte glaze made in house, giving it a unique and polished finish. Available in two sizes, this mug is a perfect blend of heritage and modern design, making it an ideal addition to any ceramics collection.

The cross design has evolved from an early study of Quatrefoils motifs. These motifs are highly common in the medieval revival era of 1780 and 1830, and can be seen across many media such as wood carving, furniture, metal work, paintings, architecture and more.

Examples of quatrefoils include this wrought iron chair dating to 1815, the medieval revival style was used frequently in gardens, particularly in areas left to grow a little more wild.  Another example of this motif is in this side table, designed by Sir John Soane to house the Marquess of Buckinghams collection of medieval manuscripts.

Available in 2 sizes.
